Cumberland Trace church of Christ has participated in Lads to Leaders for over 20 years. The mission of Lads to Leaders/Leaderettes (L2) has been to develop youth into Christian leaders.

Lads to Leaders / Leaderettes

📌 What is Lads to Leaders / Leaderettes?

Lads to Leaders is a youth leadership program that began in the 1960s. The purpose is simple: help children build leadership skills and strengthen the future of the church by growing in faith and confidence.

🏁 National Conventions

Each year, the program culminates at one of ten national conventions held over Easter weekend.  Our group participates each year at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN. 

🏆 Events (Competitive & Non-Competitive)

Lads includes 41 events total—made up of 9 competitive and 32 non-competitive events. Competition is used in a healthy way that helps young people strive, learn from outcomes, and grow in character. 1 Corinthians 9:24

Remember, the focus of Lads to Leaders is the training, not the trophy!

📖 Bible-Centered 

Many events help participants build Bible knowledge and develop leadership skills, such as:

  • Bible Bowl

  • Oral Bible Reading

  • Scripture Memorization

  • Speech & Song Leading

  • Puppet Theater, Debate, and MANY other events

🙏 Our Purpose

We want to help our kids stay rooted in the church and focused on what matters most—God. Lads to Leaders provides a faith-building way for young people to grow, learn, and lead.

Who?  Lads to Leaders is for everyone from the very young to the very old, no matter your experience or capabilities. Participants in L2L range from preschool through 12th grade. Adults are needed to mentor and coach the participants through various events and also encouraged to participate in selected events for adults. The Bartimaeus events are open to all ages and provide an opportunity for students and adults with special needs to give a speech, lead a song, create art, or read from the Bible in a non-competitive, friendly environment.

  • What about the competition?  Most events are non-competitive or can be participated non-competitively. Keep in mind that the goal of L2L is training. There are few things in life that do not involve competition and learning good sportsmanship while young can be beneficial.

  • Do I have to attend the annual convention? No, but it is so much fun and you would be making great memories with your church family. New to L2L families are paired with experienced L2L families who will be there to support and encourage them at convention.

  • What is the cost?  Our elders at Cumberland Trace recognize the importance of L2L and have decided that our congregation will pay all registration fees for L2L participants and adults. The congregation also covers one night per family at the Opryland Hotel for convention. Additional nights are your responsibility, but we get a discounted group rate. As for meals, our congregation usually has a hospitality room, which enables us to combine our efforts to cover meals at a lesser cost.

  • What is the time commitment? This depends on your level of participation. Certain events may be done at home on your own schedule while others will require you to come to the building for practice and training in a group setting.
